I use Winrar, it’s free to use and it opens them all up so you don’t have to worry about it too much.
Zip and Rar files have to be opened before you save them because they won’t work if you just put them in your mod folders.
Everyone has their own system and two things to really keep in mind here is one most mods can’t go into the folder and then within another folder because in an ideal world I would’ve loved to categorize female hair with folders within to make it easier to navigate and the other thing is you have to make sure there are no zip or rar files. As time has gone on things have been added and separated or merged together. It just helps to keep it organized like this. I have a total of 57 folders inside of my folder, and they're labeled as female hair, female accessories, male hair, male outfits, male tops, and so on. Now, this is where it helps to be as organized as possible here because if you download bad CC in your game if have folders in here then you won’t have to go through everything to find the bad CC. Anyways this is where you save all of your CC at.
But if you are downloading CC then you need to go into the folder called mods, see technically Sims 4 doesn’t explicitly support CC but then they have these folders that install when you download the game so they kind of support it in their own ways. There should be a bunch of different things that pop up from there. First, go to your documents on your computer, then click on Electronic Arts folder, and then click on the Sims 4 one. The main thing you need to know is where your sims are saved and for the most part, all sims on computers are about the same. I try to very organized with my CC so I’m going to just walk through how my setup is, but your saves might be a little different and that’s okay. For Sims 4, you just have to make sure you save it all to the mod folder.
This is only going to be windows on PC since this is where I play my game and the only form of CC that I know how to download. So let’s get down to the basics since this is my first CC post!ĬC is pretty easy to download if you know how to do it, but let’s walk through it. Since this CC is used in both of my saves I’m going to keep it over on my Extra’s page instead of putting it into either of my family pages. I’m not sure how regularly it’s going to be I’m debating between every month and every three months so we will see what we end up doing for this.
Since I’ve already talked about all of my must have mods and mods that I’m curious about over here this post is going to be only about CC and it’s also going to be the start of a new series I plan to start doing since there are so many CC creators out there. It wasn’t really until I started playing with the same family for generations that CC started coming into the picture. I honestly played a very vanilla (cc-free) game for the longest time. Since I play on a laptop I am able to get a lot of CC but I choose not to keep that much actually saved since it does bog down the game.
You can literally get CC for anything in the sims, from build/buy items to skin details and so much more. CC/Custom Content are items that simmers have been adding to their game from the very beginning because it’s usually cute and it can make your game just feel brand new again, PLUS it’s usually free compared to the expansions that Sims comes out with, and sometimes it’s better than what we get officially. So in the Sims 4 CC world, it’s basically asking where’d you get that CC and how can I get it. For those of you who don’t know what WCIF means, and I honestly forget it all the time, it means where can I find friendly. I get asked a lot about WCIF things over on my Instagram and I try so hard to be WCIF friendly as possible.
